Backwards

Inside out, upside down
It is, to be loved by a King.
Me,
In my frailty & smallness.
Him,
With might & all creation
In His hands.
We laugh, walk,
He holds me close.
I am nothing,
Yet He gives me
Everything I need.
The King and I,
My One & Only.
Creator & created,
In a romance so sweet;
A romance that makes no sense
In this world.
So I will give my all.
My whole heart and being
To my King,
My Lover.
My Jesus who holds me.

Truth Be Told

Truth be told,
I am a mess.
Who I am,
How I feel;
It's not often clean
Or very pretty.
I am fallible;
Certainly weak
And unsure.
Yet there is redemption,
And a love unfettered
Regardless of my mess.
Grace & mercy,
Free to me.
And all I need
Is a God who overcomes,
Loves me in spite
Of my own disastrous self,
Truth be told.

So transparent you are,
Yet so mysterious are your ways.
How is it that I
Can so easily enter
Your presence,
Yet it is the Holiest of places?
I am brought to my knees
By the wonder of who you are
And how you move me.
You invite me in,
Surround me with your love,
Fill me with your presence & power.
I have no right to be here,
Within your chambers
Gazing upon your beautiful face.
But you beckon me to the deepest place.
And I will enter,
Abandoning all I know,
All that is safe & familiar
To follow your call
And be close to you.
For you are my only reward;
You are all I need to be whole.

an old piece

i went back through the annals of my writing, and decided to post some of my older pieces here; it is interesting to see the evolution, and i can also often tell what was going on within my spirit during the time a given poem or prayer was written. so, here's a poem from the "early days" that is full of praise. (i suspect there was a lovely sunset in the evening sky the day i wrote this... ;) )

The sky at dusk,
Clouds highlighted by waning sunlight;
This simple display,
Repeated over & over,
And over again
Demonstrating your love,
A love that is never ending.
Your character I see
In this, your creation;
Consistent, Magnificent, Trustworthy
You are.
Glorious, Powerful, Bringer of Peace & Light.
I deserve none of your beauty,
To see not one display of who you are;
Yet you choose to romance me
With things you know I adore.
You alone know how to reach my heart,
To breathe life into me,
Bring me into your Majesty.
Sing me your love song,
Whisper to me.
Never will I leave your side,
Even as day fades to night,
Colors dimming into darkness
Once again.

Christmas 2011

In the dark of night,

In a secret place,

Unfitting of a King;

Love came down,

Hope came home

Held in the arms of a teen.

He left His throne,

To be unrecognized by most,

Fully human

Yet somehow

Completely God.

He came to heal the sick

And save the lost;

His unfettered love

Sets captives free.

And so Heaven came to earth,

He dwelt among us;

That baby in a manger

Became my Savior

On a tree.

the first step

well, here goes nothing!

i've decided that starting this blog may be a helpful outlet for beginning to share what i can only call my prayer-poems. most of what i write falls into two categories: praises and laments. i am often inspired to write poems declaring my love for Jesus during worship services. my laments are usually penned in times of sadness or difficulty. they both express the cries of my heart, though sometimes in completely opposite ways. i am not blogging to journal ~ i journal routinely already, and have no desire to alter my method. i love putting pen to paper and filling volumes with my thoughts, fears, life's events, growth and joys, and those will remain within their bindings. some of my poetry, however, i am prepared to release from those boundaries and share with those who would take the time to read. perhaps they will inspire some, invoke thoughtfulness in others, and i hope bring enjoyment on some level to you. thanks for reading!
